RVA’s Ultimate Scavenger Hunt!
Join us on National Scavenger Hunt Day (Wednesday, May 24) for our first-ever public Downtown/Capitol Square Scavenger Hunt!
On this roughly two-hour immersive adventure, you’ll discover Richmond via Downtown, Capitol Square, and Shockoe Bottom. From famous Virginia women to Civil War history, architecture to secret murals, you’ll be immersed in the rich culture and heritage of the area.
What’s Involved?
On this scavenger hunt, we’ll lead you right to the areas most interesting sights and stories, and at each one you’ll be prompted with a trivia question you’ll answer by looking around you.
You’ll register a team of your coolest friends to join you. On May 24, we’ll give you a comically large map and a packet of trivia questions. Then you and your team will have two hours to complete the scavenger hunt, bring back the answer sheet, and see if you’ve won the grand prize!

WHAT: Downtown/Capitol Square Scavenger Hunt
Discover Richmond’s historic streets from the 1700s through today around downtown, Capitol Square, and Shockoe Slip!
WHEN: Wednesday, May 24 (National Scavenger Hunt Day)
Register for a starting time slot between 5:30 and 6:30PM. We will offer starting times every 5 minutes.
COST: $49/team
Teams can have up to 5 people. Registration includes all materials and two hours of fun!
WHERE: Downtown Richmond
Check in at Soul Taco in Shockoe Slip to pick up and return your scavenger hunt materials. Soul Taco is located at 1215 E Main St, Richmond, VA 23219. Feel free to join us early or stay late for delicious tacos and drinks!
PARKING: On-Street or Parking Lots
On-street metered parking and paid lots are available to you. We will provide more information in your confirmation email.
GRAND PRIZE: Bragging Rights
No, just kidding. Each member of the winning team will receive free access to one of Discover Richmond Tours’ mobile-based scavenger hunts (multiple neighborhoods available)!

Scavenger Hunt FAQs
What do I need to participate?
All you’ll need is a fun team name! After registering your team, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all of the timing information and other pertinent details.
Does each person need a ticket?
Nope! You need one ticket per team. Each team will be given a giant map and a trivia packet (with a pen). No more than 5 people per team, please.
How much walking will I do?
This scavenger hunt takes you around all of Capitol Square, and from Kanawha Plaza, to the beginning of Dock Street, up to VCU Medical Center. You will want to wear comfortable shoes.
You can complete as much or as little of the scavenger hunt as you wish, as long as you are back to home base (Soul Taco in Shockoe Slip) two hours after you begin. There will be a winner, but it does not mean every team has to be ultra competitive. This is really about having a great Wednesday evening with some good people!
