Ready to discover Richmond’s oldest neighborhood?

Dive into Church Hill, Richmond’s oldest neighborhood! Get a taste of the barbecue, baked goods, and everything else that makes Church Hill a food powerhouse, while uncovering Richmond’s origin story in this must-visit neighborhood.

Joining Discover Richmond Tours means exploring Church Hill in a unique way. You will sample delicious food and snacks from up to 5 unique establishments, you’ll learn about the birthplace of Richmond and it’s heroes, and hear how our partner merchants got their start. But most of all, we’ll make sure you have fun doing it.

Highlights include:

  • Visiting a James Beard-nominated wood-fired bakery
  • Stop at a 1930s theater-turned-restaurant for classic Virginia comfort food
  • Sample a variety of ethnic delights – perhaps Turkish, Italian, Ethiopian, and/or Kiwi
  • Learn about St. Johns’s Church and its role in the American Revolution
  • Discover the stories that make Richmond’s oldest neighborhood so fascinating

Be sure to bring water and comfortable shoes – we’ll be standing at most of our stops, and we’ll be in and out too quickly for water and other beverages to be served.

Church Hill Food Tour FAQs

How does this tour compare to the others?

Our Church Hill Food Tour involves more walking than in Carytown and about the same as the Arts District. There are no full flights of stairs to navigate, but guests will stand at most stops we make. Compare all our tours here.

How much food is provided?

Small samples are provided by each of our food partners. We prefer to emphasize quality over quantity, but for most people, there is enough food for a full meal. You certainly won’t want to eat immediately before or after the tour!

What if it rains? What if it’s cold outside?

The tour goes on! We can eat inside at most places, but consider bringing an umbrella for periods spent outside. If the weather is unsafe, the tour will be modified or cancelled and appropriate considerations regarding refunding/rescheduling will be taken.

Can I book a private tour outside of regular tour times?

Yes, private tours are available just about every day of the week! For more information or to get in touch with us about a private tour, check out our Private Tours page!

Are gift certificates available?

Yes, indeed! And they’re super easy to use. Find more information on our gift certificates page.

“The food tour brought us through the doors of restaurants we would not have thought to try.”

– Laurie, Roanoke

“I’ve already recommended this experience to a bunch of friends!”

– Jessica, Richmond
