6 Of The Best Restaurants In Richmond, VA For Gluten-Free Diets
Following a gluten-free diet? Want to know where you can dine and have plenty of options? Being a gluten-free foodie can be difficult, but we’re here to help! Throughout Richmond, restaurants are offering gluten-free folks positive experiences more often, and a few local chefs have really embraced the GF crowd. So check out our list of 6 of our favorite gluten-free-friendly restaurants in Richmond, VA.
The Daily Kitchen & Bar
This popular Carytown (and now Short Pump, too!) spot really needs no introduction – it’s well-known for catering to the vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and even paleo crowds. Here are the dinner menu gluten-free (and gluten-free option) stats: 9 appetizers, 6 salads, 7 sandwiches, 6 pizzas, 4 bowls, and 9 entrees. At some restaurants, that’s an entire menu, but at The Daily, it’s just what they do. The mushroom and kale pizza is highly recommended.
Ellwood Thompson’s Hot Bar
One of our favorite spots for a healthy meal isn’t even really a restaurant at all, so it may get overlooked. If you’re looking for something gluten-free (or vegetarian, or 100% plant-based), check out the Hot Bar at Ellwood Thompson’s! We love the always-changing options so it feels like a different meal every time you visit. Plus, they always have stuff on hand from other gluten-free-friendly spots like Nile Ethiopian Restaurant and The Mantu.
Fresca On Addison
Fresca, by well-known chef Jimmy Sneed and his daughter Jenna, is a fully vegetarian restaurant that can make nearly everything vegan or gluten-free. Featuring a modest selection each of snacks, salads, sandwiches, tacos, pizza, and entrees, the focus at Fresca is on quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. Our picks – the Curried Butternut Squash soup and Greek Salad.
The Mill On MacArthur
The Mill is, quite simply, a down-to-earth, friendly, home-style restaurant in Richmond’s Northside. Featuring an extensive menu with clearly marked options for gluten-free folks (including gluten-free dough if pizza is your thing) and a surprisingly complex cocktail program, this neighborhood spot has its share of regulars. We recommend the fish tacos, whether you’re a gluten-free diner or not. And if you’re not yet convinced, go on a Meatless Monday to check out gluten-free specialty items!
Nile Ethiopian Restaurant
Church Hill-based Nile is one of, if not the best, Ethiopian restaurants in town providing a truly unique dining experience. Eschew traditional utensils in favor of using your hands and traditional Ethiopian (and gluten-free) injera bread to eat your hearty stews, meats, and vegetables. Even if you’re not gluten free, the GF options here will still wow anyone!

Tio Pablo Taqueria
Literally everything on Tio Pablo’s menu is gluten free – it’s the first thing you’ll read on their website! We love the extensive menu, full of fresh ingredients and awesome flavors. The Carnitas are spectacular, and we are always in the mood for a delicious Huevos Rancheros. Make sure not to miss out on their signature margaritas, too!
